Social Specialist
Function:
The Social Specialist will be a member of the TFT Team Work, and focus on social issues related to Forest, Mills and Palm Oil Estate Management in Indonesia. The Ideal Candidate is comfortable training Company Staff (both at HQ level and Field level) on implementation of Free, Prior, Informed Consent (FPIC), Conflict Prevention, Conflict Resolution, and Development of Social Management Plans. Strong writing skills are also required as the position will involve writing reports and proposals for TFT Business and Donor clients. The Social Specialist will also be expected to support the management of stakeholder relations between TFT and Indonesian NGOs.
Strong speaking and writing skills in Bahasa and English a plus.
Main duties:
1. Assisting and training TFT’s clients for them to meet social standards in various certification schemes, such as the FSC, PEFC, RSPO etc.
2. Providing thorough analysis and recommendation for TFT and Clients in creating strong Social Management Programs for their companies
3. Assessing companies’ labor standards, especially in regard to safety, ILO Convention and gender equality
4. Assessing company procedures for
securing land from local people, or entering into joint management agreements against the principles of Free, Prior, Informed Consent (FPIC)
5. Training TFT Clients in how to do Social Impact Assessment
6. Conduct social/conflict mapping in various TFT project sites.
7. Develop and implement plans for TFT and clients to settle conflicts in various TFT project sites.
8. Facilitating conflict resolution processes in various TFT project sites.
9. Training TFT Clients in how to set up systems for conflict prevention and resolution
10. Training TFT Clients in how to negotiate with local people in such a way that ensures Free, Prior, Informed Consent (FPIC)
11. Maintain good communications and relations with clients and various respected stakeholders, such as NGOs in Indonesia.
12. Writing Reports for internal and external audiences on work done related to Conflict Management and/or Social Standards
13. Preparing Proposals related
to TFT Social Management Work for Business and Donor clients
Qualifications:
Graduate/Master degree in Social Sciences
Minimum of 5 years experiences in social development field works, preferably in institutional development and conflict management.
Proven experiences/Ability to facilitate multi-stakeholder processes and communicate with wide range of stakeholder—government, private and non-government organizations—locally and nationally.
Proven experiences/Skillful in various participatory approaches, methods and tools, and ability to conduct various social researches.
Well understanding in national legislations on forestry,Palm Oil, workers, estate etc, and international norms and standards,.
Ability to work in a diversity of situations; including very rural settings
Ability to work with other team members
Strong report and proposal writing skills
Fluent in English; spoken and written.
